“A night that ended it”

Characters: Kelly, Jason

Kelly:

(Aside, standing just left of centre stage)

I remember thinking I am I going to die… I could feel his breathe on my neck… the hairs on my neck prickled and I tried to tense my body to deflect the feel of his clammy hands touching my shoulders and neck… I could feel the knife start to graze my throat… start to cut into my skin… all I could think about is how I can get out of here… I need to find a way to save myself and save my soul.

(Turns back in time, Kelly goes and sits in a chair with a table, the set is a diner, in which the character Jason walks up to Kelly and starts a casual conversation)

Jason:

Hi, errrr can I sit here? The rest of the table are taken and I won’t stay for long

Kelly:

Sure, sorry ill just move my stuff

(She shuffles her papers that she is working on, making room him to sit opposite her, they sit for a few seconds and Jason casually makes conversation)

Jason:

(Speaks as if he is interested in her)

Sooo… what are you doing working on? Anything awesome?

Kelly:

(Energetically, and looks at him)

No no just boring old work… I have a large pitch that I have to present tomorrow so I’m madly trying to finish it…you?

Jason:

I see, nah I’m just here on my lunch break having a quick one… (Looks at his watch) got to get back… I told the boss I’m just having a ciggy. (Cigarette) I’ll be leaving in 5 mins… what’s your pitch on?

Kelly:

Oh, just a presentation of how to make everyday life more eco friendly, I’m talking about the consequences that will occur if we don’t start changing the way we live now…

(She says the following with an understanding tone)

I know it sounds hippie and all but it’s a concern that no one seems to care about even though it will affect them…
